Peter Kilde

Since 1995, Peter Kilde has been Executive Director of West CAP, a community action nonprofit in western Wisconsin which develops and manages very green low-income housing, and operates homelessness intervention, energy assistance, car ownership, weatherization, food security, adult literacy and skills programs. Peter served on the National Community Action Partnership Board of Directors 2004 - 2023, where he created and currently co-chairs the Partnership for Climate Resilience, which focuses on how Community Action Agencies across America can best adapt to climate change. Kilde is also on the board of Slipstream, a Wisconsin-based national nonprofit linking energy conservation and social equity. Recipient of the 2013 Charles M. Hill Sr. Award for Housing Excellence, Mr. Kilde is widely recognized for his leadership in affordable housing innovation and energy conservation.
Prior to coming to West CAP, Kilde worked for the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation of St. Paul, Minnesota, where for 12 years he was operations director of Wilder Forest, a 1,200-acre conference and education center linking social and environmental concerns. He now lives with a grown daughter or two on a small organic farm and woodlot in western Wisconsin.
