Shalanda Baker

Shalanda Baker is the inaugural Vice Provost for Sustainability and Climate Action at the University of Michigan and a globally recognized expert in energy justice. She previously served in the Biden-Harris Administration as the first Deputy Director for Energy Justice and as the Director of the Office of Energy Justice and Equity at the U.S. Department of Energy, where she led equity and justice initiatives. A former professor at Northeastern University and co-founder of the Initiative for Energy Justice, she has spent over a decade researching the equity dimensions of the energy transition. A Fulbright scholar and author of Revolutionary Power: An Activist’s Guide to the Energy Transition, Ms. Baker is also a former Air Force officer and practiced law in Boston and Tokyo.
